America Needs Creatives Promotional Video

Wanting to create a sort of western style collection, I decided to call on memories I spent in Iowa City, IA during the Summer of 2021 to serve as inspiration for my second collection. Although it may not be true ‘western’, the midwest surely has its own culture in regard to farming and style for that matter. Initially titled, “America Needs Farmers” as an ode to the saying created by the state of Iowa, I chose to change it to “America Needs Creatives”. Not by any means of disrespecting the need for farmers in the country, but to call on creatives in the country to get their work out there, as it is truly the backbone of how humans feel in my opinion. With this in mind, to promote the collection, the idea of sitting on a chair next to a cow loomed in my head. Back and forth with the idea of shooting as a sunny go-lucky vibe or a grey overcast, Oregon’s weather ultimately decided for me. Venturing out to Sauvie Island just north of Portland, I found a small section of a wild life reserve where cows essentially run free. I packed up a chair, my camera, and a book. The idea goes like this: I sit in a chair reading a book about fabrics looking for inspiration. As I flip through the pages, the images begin to flip back to memories of that summer of 2021 that I spent in Iowa. What better source of inspiration than my own memories? Choosing to edit in black and white to amplify this idea, the video then cuts to black and finally to a montage of my film photos from Iowa. The inspiration for the collection comes to life. As one final ode to my upbringings, the video closes out with text, of which utilizes the same font as “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”. Thanks for watching.
