Shell Pocket Thermal

The Shell Pocket Thermal was derived from the ideology of hunting, farming, and cold winters. Thermals are typically worn underneath clothing as a base layer to provide warmth. They were used extensively in military uniforms, as well as to this day in those that work outside in extreme temperatures. Wanting to pay homage to vintage clothing, I chose to dye the garment in a purple color to represent the color of what a navy garment looks like after being left in the sun for too long — a sun faded navy color. The chest pocket is derived from hunting gear and are shaped for bullet shells; this pocket directly references that of one that I found in studying a book called “The Book of Pockets”. The cutoff neckline was done in the post construction of the garment, as I wanted it to look unfinished similar to clothing that people wear to the gym or work outside in. Finally, the 3/4 sleeve was derived undershirts that are often worn in baseball that I think represent the ideology of outside labor quite well.
